Apple for the Teacher
Celebrating our area educators in October, teachers in Tompkins and Cortland Counties are presented with an apple compliments of Cornell University Apple Orchards and Cayuga Radio Group.
Our listeners are asked to write the station in 100 words or fewer and describe why a certain teacher deserves to be nominated for The Apple for the Teacher Award.
The nominator may be a student, an entire class, a school administrator, a parent, a friend etc.
A panel of judges from our stations chose a weekly recipient's letter. Giving credit to the teacher and the nominator, the letters were read on the radio during October-November.
At the Apple for the Teacher Banquet on December 3rd, the teachers received a special Apple for the Teacher award, and a grand prize was drawn from the recipients. The Grand Prize winner for 2009 was Scott Moseley. A computer and printer was awarded to Newfield Elementary, and Mr. Moseley won a laptop courtesey of Black Box Computer Consulting.
